| Raylite Batteries South Africa commenced producing lead acid batteries for automotive, standby (reserve power), UPS, material handling and mining locomotive applications. | ||
Raylite
was established in 1947 and has always supplied starter batteries (SLI)
to
South African Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM). Toyota has been
a customer for more than 40 years and currently more than half of all
new vehicles manufactured and sold in South Africa are fitted with Raylite
Starter batteries. Globe Union acquired a share in Raylite in 1973, this
share was transferred to Johnson Controls Incorporated (JCI) in 1981.
Johnson Controls Inc. disposed of this share to Metair Investments in
1988. |

| Well known makes of vehicles supplied by Raylite include DaimlerChrysler-Mercedes Benz - Mitsubishi, Nissan, BMW, Toyota and MAN. | ||

automotive batteries are distributed through the Battery Centre franchise
